What this service covers
Quantity surveying is the backbone service we've built the practice around. We produce elemental cost plans through RIBA Stages 2 to 4, bills of quantities and pricing schedules for competitive tender, and post-contract cost management right through to final account.
Our cost plans use RICS NRM1 for pre-contract work and NRM2 for measurement, and we benchmark against BCIS and recent tender returns from active West Sussex projects. That local grounding matters — a Chichester conservation-area conversion prices differently to a Crawley industrial fit-out, and generic UK-average rates hide that variation.
Post-contract we handle interim valuations, variation costing, change control, contingency drawdown reporting and final accounts. Cost reports are written to be read by non-QS decision-makers: clear enough for a homeowner, defensible enough for a lender or an audit committee.

What does a quantity surveyor do?
A quantity surveyor manages the cost and commercial side of a construction project — from early order-of-cost estimates and cost plans, through procurement and tendering, to interim valuations and the final account. The aim is cost certainty and value for money at every stage.
Do I need a quantity surveyor for a home extension or renovation?
Above a modest value it usually pays for itself. A cost plan tells you what a scheme should cost before you tender, and a tender review makes sure the prices you receive are fair and complete — both routinely save more than the fee.
How much does a quantity surveyor cost?
It depends on the value and complexity of the project. We work to a fixed fee or a percentage, agreed and quoted before we start, so you know the cost up front.
What is the difference between a quantity surveyor and a building surveyor?
A quantity surveyor deals with cost and commercial management. A building surveyor deals with the condition of a property and its defects — for example a RICS Level 2 Homebuyer Survey or Level 3 Building Survey. We provide both, so we can advise on cost and condition together.
